John Calu is a published author, essayist, and creative storyteller whose work is shaped by a lifetime of experience in the arts, entertainment, education, business, and writing.

His creative path has taken many forms. He has served as a New Jersey State Playwright, a California Artist in Residence, and the founder of SongFactory, a program designed to encourage self-expression in elementary school children. These experiences reflect a lifelong belief that creativity is not reserved for a select few. It belongs to anyone willing to listen, imagine, and speak honestly.

John’s background also includes a successful corporate career in office technology sales, giving him a grounded understanding of people, communication, work, ambition, and the everyday pressures that shape modern life. That combination of artistic and practical experience gives his writing a distinctive voice: reflective, observant, humorous, human, and direct.

His published work includes fiction, memoir, humorous essays, historical fiction, and young adult adventure stories. Across genres, John returns again and again to the subjects that matter most to him: family, love, identity, memory, art, culture, humor, and the search for meaning.
John currently serves the Office of Language Services as an independent contractor to the U.S. State Department for the IVLP Program. He is a Foreign Language Officer and an International Visitor Liaison. He considers it the best job he has ever had.

Today, John resides on the Gulf Coast of Florida, where he continues to write, collaborate, reflect, and pursue the creative ventures that keep him engaged with the world.
